Scotland Food & Drink Net Zero Roadmap Development

Challenge

Scotland Food & Drink (SF&D) wanted to build a firm foundation for (a)specifying the knowledge and skills needed by our industry to move towards Net Zero and sustainability, and (b) Assess where there are gaps in these skills; influencing future skills, organisational, training, and recruitment strategies for the industry.

Approach

Levercliff interviewed seven businesses thought to be progressing with sustainability/net zero plans. The interviews aimed to identify how each business has developed the people resources necessary to build sustainability, the key skills and knowledge needed to do this, and the key learnings in building capability in this area.

Outcome

Levercliff were able to assess the preparedness of respondents in moving to Net Zero as well as their attitudes to sustainability generally. We highlighted the need to simplify and streamline the support landscape for Net Zero, and drew attention to the need for industry to train and recruit more electrical engineers to help manage the transition to new power sources. This report has helped SF&D refine their plans for supporting the industry’s move to Net Zero.
